Our newsletter editor and her elves do such a wonderful job collecting information on events around town that may be of interest to Newcomers, we decided to put the suggestions on the web. This is not an exhaustive list of everything going on around town and may not be completely accurate as things change, but we hope it gives you some ideas. Alberta Legislature Building (free)

Visit the beautiful Alberta Legislature Building and learn about Alberta’s history! There are tours every hour, on the hour, from 9am to 3pm Mon-Fri, noon to 4pm weekends and holidays (or you can wander around by yourself). Also, check out the Interpretive Centre where kids can try on ceremonial robes and adults can browse the gift shop. Info at: www.assembly.ab.ca. Catalyst Theatre

This theatre at 8529 103 Street is the only professional theatre company in the city mandated to produce wholly original work. Check out their schedule.. edmontonplus.ca/arts_entertainment/catalyst_theatre_society

Citadel Theatre

The Citadel Theatre is Canada’s largest not-for-profit theatre and is located in the heart of downtown Edmonton. It houses five performing spaces: Shoctor Theatre, Maclab Theatre, Rice Theatre, Tucker Amphitheatre and Zeidler Hall. It is on 99th Street and Shocter Alley (just up from Jasper Avenue). There is a parking garage right underneath the theatre. www.citadeltheatre.com.

City Arts Center

Winter is often a time when we vow to improve ourselves. You can practice yoga, study pottery, learn how to foxtrot, explore Thai cooking, make wire jewelery, and sample all kinds of visual art skills at the City Arts Centre. This wonderful city-run institution, on 83rd Avenue and 109th Street, offers all kinds of courses (for both adults and children) - some once-a-week for three months, others for just a few hours on one day. Edmonton Symphony Orchestra - Winspear

Northlands Agricom is located at 116 Avenue & 73 Street. There are several special events every month.

Royal Alberta Museum

Royal Alberta Museum is at 12845 102nd Avenue. Alberta's natural and human history museum houses a permanent collection of three main galleries. The Natural History Gallery offers specimens of plants, animals, birds, insects, fossils and minerals. The fossil gallery displays extinct beasts from ancient Alberta, with the bug room containing live specimens from around the world. The Syncrude Gallery tells the story of the aboriginal culture and history. The wild Alberta galley encourages visitors to look at Alberta environment from a different perspective.
