Message from the President

As I write this, it is snowing and blowing with more of the same to come. By the time you read this, I hope that evidence of spring is all around. If this is your first growing season in Edmonton, it's time to get to the garden center and find out what "zone 3" gardening is all about. Some Newcomers monthly activities go on hiatus over the summer months, so be sure you take advantage of what might be your last time to enjoy your new friends and activities for a few months.

For our monthly evening social in May, we will be doing something special. We'll have a potluck at my house (see inside for details), with plenty of socializing, and we will introduce and confirm next year's Executive Board. Although some positions have been filled, a few are still open. If you would like to have the opportunity to have a say in your club and the chance to get to know a great group of women better, just give me a call and we'll discuss what's still open that might suit you and your strengths. There's no such thing as being "too new" in a club where you can only be a member for 4 years. And speaking of that 4 years, be sure to make your reservation for the June 2 dinner at the Edmonton Country Club to see who's moving on to the Alumnae group this year.

During the months of May and June, you will be able to re-new your membership early for the bargain price of $25. Otherwise a yearly membership is $30. All memberships must be re-newed by September 30 for the next year. The early renewal gives the Board an idea of the number of members and budget they will be starting with in the fall.

Finally, my husband, Andrew, and I are instigating a "games and pizza" night this month, and if it's well received, we'll make it a regular monthly activity. Please join us as a player or spectator for pool, ping pong, foosball, darts, cards, etc on May 10. See inside for more details.

So enjoy our well deserved spring, and I'll look forward to seeing you at one of the many activities this month.

Yours in friendship,

Amy Nelson
